2012 PORT OF PLYMOUTH REGATTA - 21st JULY TO 29th JULY

The 2012 Port of Plymouth Regatta is all set to be one of the best yet in the long history of the event (Did you know that it is one of the oldest regattas in the country having been first held in 1823 and every year since except during the two World Wars?).

The Regatta gets underway with the Regatta Yacht Series for IRC, PY, and One Design yachts classes over the first weekend of 21st/22nd July.

The racing will consist of up to 4 back to back races each day, with committee boat starts and laid windward/ leeward/ or triangular courses. Prizes will be awarded to all race winners and for the overall series for which the class winners will receive the Regatta perpetual trophies.

Saturday will also be the RYA Sail for Gold “Push the Boat Out” day and as part of the effort to get as many afloat as possible there will be a White Sail Race with some great prizes up for grabs.

Weekday evenings will see competitors getting around the Port to race at the various member clubs with prizes for the overall series results.

The Regatta Dinghy Series takes place over the weekend 28th/29th July with up to 4 back to back races each day and committee boat starts. Prizes will be awarded to all race winners and for the overall series for which the class winners will receive the Regatta perpetual trophies.

The 2012 Regatta sees closer ties with the Plymouth Classic Boat Rally (27th – 30th July), and as part of the Regatta racing will be run from the Royal Plymouth Corinthian Yacht Club (RPCYC) on Sunday 29th July for classic yachts taking part in the PCB Rally.

Once again the Regatta HQ will be the RPCYC which will be the venue for shoreside activities over both weekends. Hot food will be available from the BBQ immediately after racing and sailing suppers available later in the evening. There will be live music during the post-race BBQ period on Saturday 21st and 27th July, and live bands performing later on both evenings. On the weekday evenings all competitors will be welcomed by the clubs hosting each evenings racing.
